James Dixon

Development Director

 

After a career in international sales and marketing, James has, since 1984, provided leadership and support to organisations and projects within the Social Economy by adding value, building capacity, and improving  the effectiveness of community based projects and initiatives.

 

In 2001 he was short-listed for the New Statesman-Centrica “Upstart” Award for Social Entrepreneurs. 

James founded AnyBodyCan in 2001, and has been its Development Director ever since. James was the original author of much of AnyBodyCan’s programmes, including the  ‘Be Enterprising’ programme.

He is currently studying at The Judge Business School at Cambridge University for a Masters Degree in Community Enterprise with financial support from The Northern Rock Foundation.

 

 

Steve Manchee

Chair

 

Steve is a widely experienced sustainability and community development consultant, and founder of Earth Balance.

 

He has been active in promoting local growing schemes in schools and communities on Tyneside, and is currently exploring the potential for a scheme using vacant land to grow affordable organic food for the communities of the East End of Newcastle.

 

Steve has been engaged as a freelance consultant with Community Viewfinders to explore the possibility of establishing a social firm to undertake horticultural & recycling work in the London Borough of Bromley. He is also facilitated research for the East Ashington Community Partnership.

 

Steve is a Director of BOB Recycles Limited (a community recycling project in Newcastle) and the Ouseburn Farm,

 

 

Philip Angier

Treasurer and Company Secretary

 

A former Chief Executive of Traidcraft plc, Philip now runs a thriving social enterprise practice specialising in feasibility and development studies, organisational development, financial planning, social finance and social accounting – www.angier-griffin.com

 

After an early career in banking in the City of London, Philip spent 5 years working as Resources Officer for the Diocese of Liverpool. He joined the leading fair trade organisation, Traidcraft as Finance Director in 1987, later becoming its Chief Executive until 2001.

 

Philip is Moderator of Shared Interest Society, Chair of the Advisory Board of CapitaliSE, formerly Chair of Just Pensions, and a visiting fellow at Northumbria University.

 

He is a business coach and mentor and a director of a number of North East social enterprises.
