Valuing the Difference

Promoting social accounting to social enterprises in the North East

Valuing the Difference aims to:

  • promote the uptake of social accounting by social enterprises in Region

  • create a self-sustaining regional social accounting network

  • research benefits and barriers

  • propose and disseminate public policy recommendations

The benefits of social accounting include:

  • better focus on the organisation’s core social objectives

  • improved accountability to stakeholders and funders

  • organisational learning

  • improved effectiveness and use of resources

  • systemic measurement of social value added

Improved measures of social impact are supported by the government’s national social enterprise strategy. Valuing the Difference works collaboratively with New Economics’ Quality and Impact programme and the Social Audit Network.

Valuing the Difference has delivered workshops and training to almost 300 individuals representing more than 100 social economy organisations across the Region.

Angier Griffin, Interact Social Accounting and Sustainable Cities Research Institute, Northumbria University.  It is hosted by AnyBody Can Limited  and supported by the North East Social Enterprise Partnership (NESEP)
